Farhiya, a mother of six children, faces unique challenges as her children have disabilities, and she is separated from her husband. She works as a laundress to provide for her family residing in the countryside. One fateful day, as Farhiya walked to her laundry job, an explosion on the road caused her severe injuries, resulting in the loss of some limbs. She spent an extended period in the hospital, not receiving adequate care. Reflecting on her situation, she shared, “I was born into poverty; I believe that seeking medical treatment abroad would have prevented my disability.”
Presently, Farhiya and her family endure challenging circumstances. They receive modest financial assistance from a cousin who is also unemployed. Unable to work herself, Farhiya struggles to cover her children’s education expenses, healthcare needs, and provide suitable shelter from the rain.
Farhiya’s son expresses his heartfelt sentiment: “If my mother regains her health, nothing else will hold importance, and her well-being will be everything to me.” Farhiya hopes she will get support and emphasizes, “Individuals with disabilities should be provided with wheelchairs to facilitate their mobility, as there is no one to care for them or ensure an improved quality of life.
