Abdullahi Ali is a 60-year-old man living in Mogadishu. As a father of nine, he rents a small house in Dharkeynley district. Abdullahi is from a minority clan.
Abdullahi’s woes began when he lost his ancestral land during the country’s civil wars. Powerful individuals took advantage of the chaos to snatch his land away, leaving him helpless. Seeking justice seemed impossible as he couldn’t navigate the complex channels. Things took another turn for the worse when Abdullahi was later forced out of his current district by armed government-affiliated people, leaving him homeless. Despite reaching out to the local government, his clan’s lack of influence meant no help was forthcoming.
Today, Abdullahi lives in a rented space and hopes to eventually regain his lost land. His struggle is a reminder that justice isn’t always easily attainable, especially for those with fewer resources and advantages. Abdullahi’s tale is a testament to one person’s fight against a flawed system. It highlights the challenges and setbacks accompanying the pursuit of justice in Somalia.
